A recent study by the Pew Research Center titled "Overview of youth, MXH and technology 2010" gave some startling figures about the dependence of American youth in media and devices technology.
1. 24% of teens admit "online almost continuously" - this phenomenon is undoubtedly due to the popularity of smartphones.
2. 92% of teens said "online" at least once a day, 56% admit to the network "several times" a day. This shows that only 8% resist the appeal of the Internet.
3. 88% of teens aged 13-17 have cell phones, and 90% of them said they use for messaging. The average teenager sends and receives 30 messages a day (not including messaging applications on pages like Facebook, WhatsApp and Kik).

4. Despite the smartphone or not, 91% of teens said they access the Internet from your phone. Of these, 94% to the Internet daily or more often.
5. 71% said they use social networking sites after the most: Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Twitter, snapchat, Vine and Tumblr.
